Mount Baldo

Mount Baldo stretches for 40 kilometres between Trentino and the Verona area, with its foothills bordering Lake Garda and its peaks reaching over 2,200 metres. From the 16th century onwards, botanists from all over Europe flocked here to study its extraordinary flora and named it Hortus Europae, the Garden of Europe. A name that still holds true today: almost half of all Alpine flora grows here, alongside species found nowhere else in the world. Discover the flora around you during your stay at our hotel on Mount Baldo – perhaps even during a massage.

Lake Garda

Our hotel is set in the nature of Trentino, yet is also just a 30- to 40-minute drive from Lake Garda. A whole new world, just a stone’s throw away. There are three nearby destinations, all on the northern shore: Torbole, with its sporting spirit and perfect winds for windsurfing; Riva del Garda, with its cosy historic centre and surrounded by mountains on three sides; Malcesine, with its medieval lanes and the Scaliger castle reflected in the water.

Avio Castle

About a 30-minute drive from Elgus stands one of the oldest castles in Trentino, managed by Fondo Ambiente Italiano since 1977, which can be reached on foot via a path through the vineyards. Inside, two distinct worlds coexist: 14th-century frescoes depicting the art of war in the Guard House, and the Chamber of Love in the keep, featuring scenes of courtly love rendered in soft yet vibrant colours. Rare and exceptionally well-preserved secular artwork from the 14th century.

Mount Altissimo in Nago

You’ve read its name all over our website, including in Grandpa Augusto’s story: Mount Altissimo. 2,079 metres high, it’s a silent sentinel between the Brentonico plateau and Lake Garda. On its summit, the view suddenly opens up: the lake stretches out before you in all its length, from the blue waters of Torbole to the southern shores, with the Brenta Dolomites and the Adamello range creating a stunning backdrop.

Don’t miss the Sentiero dei Cirmoli trail, which starts from our hotel on Mount Baldo and is dedicated to Grandpa Augusto and his beloved Swiss stone pines!

Brentonico

Brentonico is not just the plateau surrounding Elgus, it’s also a lively village, with a historic centre that’s well worth a leisurely stroll. Stone-paved lanes, ancient gateways, flower-bedecked windows, and a cosy square centred around the fountain and the Church of Saints Peter and Paul with its Romanesque crypt that effortlessly transports you back in time.
Palazzo Eccheli Baisi and its gardens are not to be missed.

Brentonico botanical garden

Right next to Palazzo Eccheli Baisi, the botanical garden and herb garden are well worth a visit in their own right. 6,000 square metres of plants arranged not by botanical family, but by use, characteristics, and natural habitat. The garden is home to around 500 species, most of which were collected directly from the wild on Mount Baldo, known as the “Garden of Europe” and renowned for its extraordinary biodiversity since the 15th century.

Rovereto

Just a few kilometres from the hotel, Rovereto never fails to surprise first-time visitors. The second-largest city in Trentino, but the first in terms of cultural richness: Venetian arcades, 18th-century palaces, and a compact historic centre that’s a pleasure to explore on foot, at a leisurely pace.
Any ideas for the winter? Our hotel in Trentino is near the ski slopes, but Rovereto Christmas market is definitely another great winter option.
You mustn’t miss the MART, either: the museum of modern and contemporary art.
